SEN & Disabilities
Back To ListBarton Court Academy Trust is committed to the successful inclusion of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
We are committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible progress for all of our pupils whatever their needs or abilities. Not all pupils with disabilities have special educational needs and not all pupils with SEN meet the definition of disability but school policies covers all of these pupils and reflect the SEND Code of Practice 2014 guidance.
"Pupils have Special Educational Needs when they have either a learning difficulty or a disability and they need special educational provision (SEP) to be made for them. SEP is defined as any education or training provision which is additional to or different from that generally made for others of the same age in mainstream schools or post-16 institutions in England."
(Children and Families Act 2014 section 20)
The specific objectives of our SEND policies are as follows:
- To identify and provide for pupils who have disabilities and special educational needs.
- To work within the guidance provided in the SEND Code of Practice 2014.
- To operate a ‘whole pupil, whole school’ approach to the management and provision of support for disability and special educational needs.
- To provide support and advice for all staff working with pupils with disability and special educational needs.
- To develop and maintain partnership and high levels of engagement with parents.
- To ensure access to the curriculum for all pupils.
- To ensure that all learners make the best possible progress.
- To ensure that learners express their views and are fully involved in decisions which affect their education.
- To promote effective partnership and involve outside agencies when appropriate.
